Description

The open cluster NGC 2244 lies at the center of the nebula whcih lies about 5,000 light-years from Earth and measures roughly 130 light years in diameter. The Chandra X-ray Observatory revealed the presence of approximately 2500 young stars within the dense molecular cloud, including massive O-type stars which are primarily responsible for the ionized bubble.

The un-relenting cloud over the last month(s) temporarily lost the plot and I got one spectaular night with the SQM meter reading magnitude 20.6  per square arcsecond but it was obvious to the unaided eye it was a very good night indeed.  Last night under a blazing full moon I had great seeing but very ordinary transparency but no complaints as I managed to get enough data to greatly improve the detail.

The RedCat 71 is a truly remarkable scope. On the AM5 I ended up with a total of 81 exposures (6.75 hours) and no rejects (!). I can carry the entire rig from the house to the backyard without ripping my aging back. Looks like (No Back) Strain Wave mounts have really come of age :-)
